Kitchen Wallpaper Removal, Repair and Paint!

Kitchen in need of repair
Wow, this Kitchen was a work of determination and art! It has been a while since our last post and this is our most recent project. We'll post jobs back through last year as we have the time.

Kitchen in need of repair
The project started with with a semi repaired ceiling where the patch was put right over the wallpaper on the rest of the ceiling.

The walls had some paper removed but plenty of bumps and fragments of the old wallpaper backing.

Also a patch on part of the wall over wallpaper backing. The old wallpaper was also glued right to the drywall paper!

The back splash behind the stove will come off too.

So to get things rolling, the paper had to come off and the holes needed filled in.

The back splash also brought paper with it.

A liberal coat of joint compound was applied to all recessed areas and the ceiling was rapatched to even out the old repairs and wallpaper damage. after a good sanding and a second application.

Once completed he ceiling was painted with a nice PPG Manor Hall Flat White.

The rest of the walls needed additional patching and repairs plus a solution to the multiple layers of paper. The solution was a Zinser product called Gardz Problem Surface Sealer. It penetrates through the multiple layers, binds the unstable surfaces and seals it all.

After our problem was solved it was sanding and reapplying compound in any recessed areas and finally, the wall paint!!

The PPG Manor Hall has an excellent coverage....

as you can see.

This was found under what we think was the last piece of wallpaper.

Again, this was quite a bit of work but the final result was another great project completed by Hendersonworks and above all, a happy homeowner!
