Real Steel Striping

Here's the latest creation we can share with you from Hendersonworks.

Hollywood has used a mix of flat & gloss finishes on a real steel 1932 Ford grille shell. Then it was beautifully highlighted by more of his kustom hand pin-striping.

Enjoy!

Magneto Ignitions are Electrifying!!

What do you get when you take a beautiful stock 1957 Buick Caballero wagon and let Hollywood do a distress job on it? You get one awesome hot rod. Granted the owner spared no expense on this exquisite machine but the the logo design and lettering finish it off!

Here's a great detail shot of the Magneto Ignition and Syd and Addie designs

As we've said before, these are new paint jobs, not 50-60 year old lettering. Hollywood's perfection of the distressed lettering keeps him on the front lines and in high demand. We wouldn't be surprised to hear from the Discovery Channel wanting to start a new hit show!
Enjoy!!

The Ladybug

Well here at Hendersonworks we love a great photo. Like all Henderson's its in our blood. You can't take a bite at a family function without somebody snapping a picture of you with your mouth full. The eye's are always on the lookout for a photo opportunity. Recently we added a couple photography sections to our site. You can see location photos and some nice creative images too.

At the time the portfolio sections went up I was missing an image I really wanted to add. Rachael Henderson took a beautiful photo on her Canon camera with phenomenal depth of field. She made several adjustments to the colors in Adobe Photoshop and created a beautiful image. During a semester at the college she was attending she submitted it to their creative and literary magazine, The Chimes. The Staff loved the image so much it was used as the cover for the Spring 2011 issue.

Well you probably would like to see it so without further fanfare of one of our rising stars.....

Other photo opportunities opened this past week on a camping trip to Curwensville Lake in north western Pennsylvania. We travelled a short distance to a site called Bilger's Rock which turned out to be quite an awesome place. Unfortunately Rachael was unable to be there so I had to make do with taking the photos myself.

We hope you enjoy them as much as us.

Tribal Jesus?

A friend asked for a shirt design with a "Tribal" Jesus. He mentioned if it came out nice he'd get it tattooed on his calf. Well I'm typically not one for tattoo art but my son was pretty jazzed about it and I'm not one to turn down work, so we got to it with pads in hand.
A couple roughs later I wound up with something I liked and so I quickly inked it.

Did a quick scan, placed it into Photoshop, cleaned things up with the pen tool and alakazam, there it was. It always feels good to be creating artwork.

Here's the final draft and if he decides to get a tattoo I'll have to post a picture of it.

Warhammer - The Battering Ram

Back in January of this fine year I posted "Storm the Castle" which was building a siege tower for the table top miniature game of Warhammer. Well to back it up we need some extra muscle to bash in a few gates or castle doors. Nothing like a good battering ram to do the job.

I had picked up a spare GamesWorkshop hound head from who knows where. I think an off shoot post apocalyptic game with mutants. Anyway it looked mean enough to take on some heavily barred doors! A 4"dowel was the base, and after three holes were drilled down the side toothpicks were inserted, clipped and glued in place.

A quick wash of black liquid acrylic gave it a good base coat.

The steel head was then coated with metallic gunmetal gray and dry brushed with metallic aluminium.

The collar was detailed with Pure Bronze for a nice warm contrast to the head.

The log consisted of overlapping layers of browns dry brushed from dark to light.

The colors used were Burnt Umber, Coffee Bean, Territorial Beige and a final highlight of Mushroom

And here it is in action! Orcs bearing the Yellow Hand of Sourdough are using the ram to its fullest potential, taking down the gate of the Leaping Wolf Inn.

Enjoy!

American Flyer - Rocket style!

Hollywood has been busy and we have some new photos to show you.

Kosky Racing brought Hollywood in to do a tribute to the American Flyer. I could go own with flowery wording and lots of adjectives or just let you take a look for yourself.

Warhammer - Goblin Spider Riders

Howdy, been a while since the last post and a great deal has been happening. I have several things to post about in the next week or two. For now, I scored some spider riders for my Warhammer Orcs and Goblins army on eBay for 7.00! Yahoo!!  I'm all about deals so I typically use the Folk Art and Apple Barrel Colors paints by Plaid and Americana paints by DecoArt instead of the more expensive paints.
Anyway, the spider riders are great for a fast flanking force that can actually do some real damage.

We tried a couple color schemes but decided on a brown and green so they could blend into the forest. The riders came assembled and primed from the auction so I started with burnt umber on their bodies and upper legs.

Second I added avocado onto the front and upper legs and also on the back of the spiders abdomen. If you are painting some of these guys don't worry to much about the underside of the legs and body, you'll rarely see them

Next we used light leaf green on the tips of the legs, dry brushed on the upper legs and to highlight the face and mandibles. I also lightly brushed it up the abdomen to catch all the edges and bumps.
There are two body styles for the spiders.
The bumpy one here at the left and one with a recessed skull pattern below.

Here I've dry brushed the light leaf green over the avocado to really expose the pattern. With the black primer still in the recesses it shows up very well.

The last green we used is kiwi and glows rather nicely. I used it on the tips of the legs, eyes and mandibles.

I then started the rider with a base of olive green and then a Folk Art color, Hauser Green Light.

Well I'll skip to the chase and here is a finished rider. This guy is the standard bearer for the "Nasty Nippers"

His spider has the skull pattern and Joshua did some craziness on it for me.

The story for these guys is they raided the Rowdy Red tribe and knocked off their leader. They used his former spider as their banner to indicate the great triumph! Four layers of red were used to get the final result.

The bases are modeled with great texture and little extras like rocks, tree trunks, webs and little spiders! Here is the command unit including Yarvit, their leader, the standard bearer and the musician. Nice skull drum eh. What a motley crew.

The rest of the Nasty Nippers will get finished and posted soon!.
